Report: Raiders fire Chip Kelly as OC

The Las Vegas Raiders are parting ways with offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Raiders made Kelly the NFL’s highest-paid coordinator in February, adding him to Pete Carroll’s new coaching staff after Kelly enjoyed a successful stint as Ohio State’s OC.

Las Vegas’ decision to dismiss the 61-year-old comes after a 24-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns that dropped Las Vegas to 2-9. It was the team’s third straight game scoring 16 points or fewer.

The Raiders entered the season with high expectations for their offense after hiring Kelly, drafting running back Ashton Jeanty, and trading for quarterback Geno Smith. However, the club has averaged only 4.7 yards per play this year, the third-worst mark in the league.

Carroll also fired special teams coordinator Tom McMahon in November.
