After some parts of Wales were drenched in snow, much of Wales faced downpours for much of the weekend. But those conditions are set to be replaced by some very changeable weather over the following days with milder temperatures on their way.
Persistent and at times heavy rain is due to arrive in Wales during the early hours of Sunday. The Met Office expects temperatures to drop to around 3C overnight. As the morning progresses the early rain is forecast to clear before a mix of sunshine and showers.
It is set to be a windy day, with the possibility of coastal gales.
The Met Office warns the wind will make it feel colder despite temperatures being near the seasonal average, peaking at about 10C.
The forecaster also says “more pronounced impacts” are possible on Sunday depending on the intensity of low pressure spreading into Wales from northern Ireland.
Moving into Monday, it predicts there will be sunny spells with occasional blustery showers.
The weather should be “largely settled” on Tuesday although Wales is set for a frosty night leading into Wednesday.
A turn towards the wet and windy is forecast for midweek though this should be accompanied by milder temperatures.
In its longer-term forecast, which covers the whole of the UK from November 27 to December 6, the Met Office predicts “changeable” conditions.
It says: “After a settled start across much of England and Wales, it will be quickly turning unsettled across Northern Ireland, Scotland, and then the remainder of England and Wales through Wednesday and into Thursday, with cloud and rain bearing Atlantic systems heralding a step change back towards more changeable, or even unsettled conditions through the last days of November into early December.
“Rain could at times be heavy and prolonged, with the risk of gales.
“There could be some short-lived transient settled periods too, perhaps bringing an increased risk of frost and fog for a day or two, this most likely further south-east.”
It forecasts temperatures in late November and early December to be “milder than seen recently”.
Looking ahead towards the middle of December, the Met Office says: “Above average temperatures are slightly more likely overall, but colder spells could still occur.
“One or more spells of snow cannot be ruled out, should weather systems arrive into colder air.”
