UK weather: Weekend rain forecast as snow and cold come to end

Friday night will start cold with a widespread frost. Temperatures could plummet as low as -5C in rural southern England.
Cloud and rain will move east across Scotland and Northern Ireland and spread into Wales, northern and western England by the end of the night.
Temperatures will start to rise as south-westerly winds strengthen, so most places will be frost-free by Saturday morning.
It’ll be a wet start to Saturday in Wales, north and west England with rain moving east across central and eastern England through the day. Relatively strong winds will accompany the rain, with the strongest gusts reaching 40-50mph along Channel coasts.
Brighter weather will follow in Scotland and Northern Ireland with a few sunny intervals and one or two showers. Temperatures for many areas will still be below the November average although it won’t be as cold as recent days. Highs will reach 8-12C in the south and west but will still be quite cold in the north-east with highs of 5-9C.
