BREAKING: Judge dismisses indictment against James Comey and Letitia James

A federal judge in Virginia dismissed the Justice Department’s indictment against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James Monday afternoon, saying the appointment of interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan was “unlawful.”

Judge Cameron McGowan Currie said that Attorney General Pam Bondi did not have the authority to appoint Halligan to lead the Eastern District of Virginia. Bondi was permitted to appoint an interim U.S. attorney for 120 days beginning January 21, 2025.

Bondi had appointed Erik Seibert, the former interim U.S. Attorney, in January. However, he was ousted in September upon refusing to indict Comey.

According to the judge, Bondi lost her authority to appoint an interim attorney after May 21, 2025. Rather, the district court would have had the authority to appoint a new interim attorney.

Department of Defense investigating Senator Mark Kelly

The Department of Defense, also known as the Department of War under the Trump administration, announced Monday it was investigating Democratic Senator Mark Kelly for potentially violating military law when he appeared alongside colleagues in a video.

The video, posted last week, showed six Democratic lawmakers, including Kelly, urging active service members to ignore any orders that could violate the Constitution.

The Defense Department said it received “serious allegations of misconduct” against Kelly, a former naval officer, and had launched a “thorough review” to determine if Kelly’s behavior should proceed to court-martial proceedings or other administrative punishments.

“This matter will be handled in compliance with military law, ensuring due process and impartiality,” the Defense Department said.

Controversial Gaza aid group, backed US and Israel, suspends operations

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a controversial US and Israeli-backed group that intended to deliver aid to Palestinians, announced it will cease operations, two Israeli sources told CNN.

The group operated several sites in Gaza, but its work has been tied to several mass tragedies in which Palestinians have been killed while trying to seek food.

Additionally, reports from multiple outlets accused Israeli Defense Force troops of indiscriminately shooting at Palestinians seeking aid at distribution sites. The IDF had denied allegations, claiming Hamas operatives opened fire at crowds

The United Nations estimated 2,100 Palestinians have been killed while seeking aid.

The group is winding down as the U.S.-brokered ceasefire deal is slowly being implemented in Gaza.

Introducing this year’s pardoned turkeys: ‘Gobble’ and ‘Waddle’

The First Lady’s Office released profiles of “Gobble” and “Waddle,” the turkeys chosen to be pardoned by the president as part of an annual White House tradition.

Every year, the president pardons two turkeys ahead of Thanksgiving. This year’s turkeys were hatched in North Carolina in July, according to their profiles. Both weigh approximately 50 lbs.

In a press release from the First Lady’s Office, the turkeys arrived in Washington, D.C., and were treated to “a luxurious stay” at the Willard InterContinental Hotel.

Once they are pardoned, “Gobble” and “Waddle” will live out the rest of their lives at the Prestage Department of Poultry Science at North Carolina State University.

Although the president will pardon both turkeys, Americans can vote on which turkey should participate in the public ceremony set to take place on the White House lawn Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET.

Trump spoke with Xi this morning

President Donald Trump spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping Monday morning, a White House official confirmed.

President Xi “underscored” his desire to make Taiwan a part of China again, according to the press release.

The Chinese president also seemingly voiced support for the U.S.’s proposed peace deal between Ukraine and Russia.

It’s unclear if the two leaders discussed the president’s decision on allowing Nvidia to sell artificial intelligence chips to China.

The news of the call follows a Bloomberg News report that indicated the president is weighing whether to allow Nvidia to sell advanced AI chips to China.

Administration touts low gas prices – data says they were lower last year

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt have posted online touting that the administration had managed “record low” gas prices ahead of the Thanksgiving week travel; however, data says prices this time last year were lower.

“Now is the perfect time to hit the road to visit family & friends for Thanksgiving – gas prices are at a RECORD LOW – and for that we can all be thankful for a more affordable holiday season,” Duffy wrote.

As of now, AAA says the national average is $3.06.

But data from AAA and GasBuddy indicate the national average for the week of November 24 was lower. GasBuddy says it was around $3.00 while AAA says it was $3.05.

In a blog post Monday, GasBuddy said the national average is “2.5 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.”

But that doesn’t mean gas prices are higher everywhere – they could be lower in some areas of the country.

Administration could announce new health care proposal

The Trump administration is reportedly preparing to announce a new proposal that intends to make healthcare more affordable for Americans – and it could come as early as Monday.

The framework, which was first reported by MS NOW, would temporarily extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies that are set to expire later this year, but could include new limits, such as new income limits and a requirement that all enrolled pay a premium.

The fight over the ACA subsidies was at the heart of the record-long government shutdown last month.

The framework is just preliminary reporting. No official announcement on Trump’s plan to make healthcare more affordable has been made by the White House.
