Carleton Place will serve as a backdrop for a new feature film on Monday as production crews shoot scenes for Love Is Not the Answer along Bridge Street.

The movie marks the directorial and screenwriting debut of actor Michael Cera and features Pamela Anderson, Steve Coogan, Fred Hechinger and Jamie Dornan. The film is described as an absurdist comedy that follows Jean, a mother and actor who becomes the centre of a man named Ingo’s world and learns that love is not always the answer to life’s problems.

Filming is scheduled between 8:45 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., with intermittent traffic stoppages on Bridge Street from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The work will take place between 43 Bridge Street and Franklin Street, along the sidewalk near 66 Bridge Street, and in the rear section of the municipal parking lot beside the library. Production trucks will be stationed near College Street and Victoria Street, with the basecamp set up at the Farmers’ Market.

According to a filming notice circulated in the community, the crew will be shooting walk-and-talk scenes and several moments that require Ontario Provincial Police to manage short traffic delays. Each stoppage is expected to last no more than two to three minutes.

The schedule for the day includes actors walking on both sides of Bridge Street, actors crossing the street near the Chasin’ Turkeys bowling alley, cyclists on the roadway near 66 Bridge Street and later filming in the library parking lot. The final scene of the day is expected to take place in front of Chasin’ Turkeys around 7 p.m.

A generator and a washroom trailer will be on site, and some parking spaces will be reserved for production vehicles.
