Health Canada Issues Urgent Recall for Hazardous Laser Sold on Amazon Canada

Consumers in Canada are being urgently advised to stop using a specific laser product sold on Amazon due to safety concerns. Health Canada identified this item as a Class 3B handheld portable laser, which poses significant risks to health and safety. Following testing, officials highlighted the potential for permanent eye injury, especially if the laser beam inadvertently makes contact with the eyes, even for brief moments.

The laser in question is the Gniby “Rechargeable Green Powerful Tactical Flashlight with Adjustable Focus, Green Laser Pointer,” which operates on a lithium-ion battery and is designed to be handheld. Health Canada noted that the product was listed on Amazon with the ASIN number B0CJ8RSS56. During the sales period from January 2024 to November 2025, approximately 14,744 units of this laser were distributed across Canada, but it has since been removed from the online retailer’s platform.

Despite the potential dangers associated with the device, no incidents or injuries have yet been reported to Health Canada. However, the foreign company that sold the laser has remained unresponsive to requests for a voluntary recall. Health Canada strongly recommends that anyone in possession of this product cease its use immediately and dispose of it safely, following local electronic waste disposal guidelines.

Interestingly, just a month prior to this recall, another laser product from the same brand, Gniby, was also pulled from the market due to similar concerns about safety. This series of recalls raises questions about the oversight and safety standards applied to consumer electronics, particularly those marketed online.
