What we know on serious A19 crash near Seaham with road closed and one hospitalised

Emergency services are on the A19 following a serious crash which has been causing major delays for drivers this morning

Everything you need to know
- A serious collision occurred at around 11pm on Monday night. The collision was between the A1018/B1404 near Seaham and the A690 Herrington Interchange.
- Emergency services have been in attendance since around 11.30pm. Those include Northumbria Police, the North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
- Collision investigation work has taken place overnight and the road was closed in both directions for hours with diversions in place. National Highways provided an update at 8am saying the southbound carriageway has now reopened – but northbound remains shut.
- The North East Ambulance Service sent two ambulance crews to the site. A spokesperson confirmed this morning that one person has been taken to hospital.
