‘Persistent’ rain and hail as Met Éireann’s 5-day forecast signals stormy skies

An unsettled few days after a freezing cold snap

Met Eireann predict thunderstorms to come

Met Éireann forecasters have predicted a week of wet and wild weather with the potential for warnings over ‘persistent’ rain and hail, strong winds and possible thunderstorms. While the temperatures are picking up this week after days of bitterly cold conditions nationwide, the milder mid-week temps are expected to come with a major weather U-turn.

The national forecasters’ latest 5-day expectations signal stormy skies as experts track a turbulent week of weather set to bring unsettled spells across the country. It will be a significant change after such a recent cold snap, which brought frost and icy conditions to many areas, characterised by freezing nighttime temperatures and very cold days.

But by tomorrow, we can expect duller conditions with widespread outbreaks of rain across Cork and Munster. Temperatures are expected to climb as high as 14 degrees in parts. Meanwhile, a “more persistent band of rain” will lash into us on Thursday, leading on to possible hail and thunderstorms on Friday as the temperature starts to sink down into the single digits again.

A ‘Persistent’ band of rain set to lash in from the Atlantic on Thursday

Overnight, it will stay cloudy with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle moving in from the Atlantic and spreading eastwards across the country. Mild with the lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.
