Tornado forms near Texas Highway 249 during Houston storms

A tornado formed near Texas Highway 249 as severe storms swept through Houston.

Severe weather swept through southeast Texas on Monday, Nov. 24, and video shows a massive tornado with a funnel cloud that touched down.

It was captured across Texas State Highway 249 in the afternoon amid a tornado watch warning throughout several counties, according to Storyful.

Footage shows the murky twister rotating, leaving onlookers in awe.

“Wow,” a person could be heard saying in the video. “You can see the debris.”

Tornado left severe damage, fallen trees

The tornado ripped through parts of Harris County, which includes Houston, leaving behind a path of destruction with damage to over 100 homes and fallen trees, officials said.

Photos shared by Harris County officials show the damage from the tornado, noting there were no reports of injuries.

“Long road a head for many people as their homes were pretty damaged by the twister. Great response by all and the community stepped up to help,” Steve Wilson, Harris County Sheriff’s Office patrol captain for District 1, said in a statement.

According to CenterPoint Energy, less than 1,000 customers were without power as of 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 25, adding that the number is “down from a peak of approximately 28,000 customers at the height of the storms.”

“We appreciate the community’s patience as we continue working safely and efficiently to restore power,” the utility company based in Houston said.
