Kate Beckinsale’s Daughter’s Egg-Laying Boyfriend (!) Confounds Kimmel — Watch

Kate Beckinsale’s visit with Jimmy Kimmel came with a medical mystery, birthing one of the most memorable interviews on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in recent memory.
Beckinsale served as Kimmel’s lead guest on Monday to promote her new film Wildcat. But any planned promotion for the film quickly fell by the wayside as the English actress dropped a wild anecdote about a man in her life who, she says, biologically lays eggs.
The moment came as Beckinsale recounted how her daughter’s boyfriend has been a welcome distraction during a “tough couple of years” that saw both of the actress’ parents pass away. “Literally the only bright spot in the whole time came from him,” Beckinsale said in a heartwarming moment.
She then casually explained: “He laid two eggs in a week, is what the bright spot was.”
“Who did?” a dumbfounded Kimmel replied. “’He laid two eggs in a week,’iIs that a British thing I don’t know about?”
While a non-plussed Beckinsale barreled on with extemporaneous details, Kimmel struggled to wrap his head around the basic facts of the anecdote.
“Could we rewind for just a moment?” he asked, focusing first on how — meaning, from which orifice — the eggs in question exited this man’s body. It was a rare moment in which the host seemed caught in his tracks, not unlike Jimmy Fallon’s now-infamous interview with Nicole Kidman.
The gist of Beckinsale’s story: After using the bathroom, her daughter’s boyfriend found an egg amongst his stool — shell, yolk and all. Beckinsale considered he might be pulling a prank to detract from the family’s hard times, but the man seemed genuinely shaken. Then it happened again.
“I got very involved in this,” Beckinsale told Kimmel, “because I really did need a distraction.”
“You need a distraction? I am completely now—” Kimmel quipped before turning to the audience. “There will be no other topics, by the way.”
The clearly giddy Kimmel kept his calm throughout the interview, at least until Beckinsale mentioned that she had photos of the eggs on her phone. Despite being unable to show the audience, Kimmel insisted on seeing the photos privately on air, inviting sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez over for his own peek.
Beckinsale and Kimmel went on to discuss theories about the eggs, and Kimmel encouraged viewers to chime in. “What I would like to happen now…. We’re going to put this on YouTube, and if there are any doctors… We want to know why he’s producing eggs,” Kimmel pled. “And perhaps we should get him a reality show, because this is unbelievable.”
Time will tell if Kate Beckinsale’s egg saga spurs Kimmel to launch another investigation of a guest or produce another reality show, but the moment has clearly already solidified a spot in future Jimmy Kimmel Live! highlight reels.
“We’ve been doing this show for a very long time,” Kimmel told Beckinsale. “I don’t know that we’ve had a stranger story.”
