The fast-food chain is axing its popular Fish Fingers Happy Meal and it’s fair to say some parents are far from happy.

One parent said: “That’s pants. My kid loves the fish fingers.”

The shock decision will devastate swathes of fast-food diners who opt for the boneless fish and crispy crust grub.

Despite its hardcore fan base, a source told The Sun fish fingers were not selling in big enough numbers.

Amid a dramatic switch up, from tomorrow bosses are introducing a new-to-the UK McFish Happy Meal – similar to the Filet of Fish, but without the tartar sauce.

And the chain is also adding Mayo Chicken’– crispy coated chicken with lettuce and cool mayo in a soft bun – as a Happy Meal option.

The source admitted it was a “bold move” and the lack of fish fingers will “take some getting used to”.

With the staple available only for a few hours more, the news has been discussed across social media with a post on the UK Newest Foods’s Facebook page receiving dozens of comments.

One disgruntled mum said: “My daughter only likes nuggets and fish finger Happy Meal … what a silly idea.”

Another added: “Ah gutted, my [little one] won’t eat anything in burger shape!

“Fish fingers are her favourite!”

One person who posted said they were “fuming” while a fourth person had this message for bosses at the fast-food giant: “That’s it, we are never going to McDonald’s ever again.”

The Sun has approached McDonald’s for comment.

The Happy Meal switch-up is not the only change on the menu.

Fish Bites, which were bite-sized pollock pieces in a panko breadcrumb coating, are also being removed.

The fast-food giant has also announced it is axing its World Menu Heist range from tomorrow – but is also adding its much-anticipated Christmas range.

From November 26, new items being launched on the McDonald’s menu over the Christmas period include the Double Big Tasty, Cheesy Chicken Stack, Coconut latte, Coconut Hot Chocolate, Cheese Melt Dippers and Cheese Melt Dippers ShareBox.

There will also be a Grinch-themed festive menu, including Grinched Gherkin McShaker Fries, Grinchmas Brownie McFlurry, Mischief McFlurry, Grumble Pie, Frozen Grinch Lemonade – and The Grinch Adult Happy Meal.

The World Menu Heist range included the Maple BBQ & Bacon Double Quarter Pounder, which came over from Canada.
