Chilly air on Black Friday, weekend warmup and rain chances ahead

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you’ve stepped outside this morning, you know it’s not your typical Jacksonville start. I’m talking about temperatures in the 30s and 40s for much of the area—it’s cold out there! At JAX, we saw 36 degrees, with 44 in St. Augustine and 41 over in Mayport.
For folks in Southeast Georgia, places like Waycross dropped to 33 degrees and Valdosta even hit 28. Add in a breeze and it feels chillier than the thermometer shows. I’ve definitely felt it myself—my car took forever to warm up, and I may have grumbled about it (off air, of course).
We’re seeing these below-average temps sticking around for another day. Normally, this time of year, our average high comes in around 71 degrees, but we’ll be running quite a bit cooler than that before the warm-up arrives.
Rain finally on the radar
Let me give you some good news if all this dry weather has had you watering the garden nonstop: we’re expecting relief early next week. Another front is forecast to move through by Sunday, and while much of the rain may break up, we’ve got a better chance for measurable rain by Tuesday.
This is much needed because we’ve been running a rainfall deficit lately—it’s been a dry month across Northeast Florida and southeastern Georgia. On our Exact Track 4D, you can see that next system lining up, and Tuesday is likely to bring a good soaking. Don’t put away the umbrella just yet.
Expect a bump in humidity Sunday and Monday before the rain, according to our “Muggy Meter” forecast. And after Tuesday, look for another dip in temperatures again midweek.
Black Friday & weekend plans
For anyone out braving Black Friday shopping or planning a beach stroll, here’s what you need to know: you’ll want a coat! Afternoon highs are forecast for the mid to upper 50s, and it’ll stay sunny but breezy. If you remember the 90s Black Friday shopping rush, at least you won’t be sweating while you wait in any lines.
Heading outdoors with your dog? The “Dog Walk Forecast” calls for clear skies and chilly temps in the 40s and 50s—my dog Kevin absolutely loves this weather. Gardeners, keep watering for now, but let Mother Nature take over when rain arrives Tuesday.
If you snap any fun shopping or weather photos, share them with us at SnapJAX—we love seeing what you’re up to!
Stay with News4JAX and The Weather Authority, and keep an eye on Exact Track 4D for the latest updates as this chilly pattern evolves. Is all this cold working for you, or are you ready for the warm-up? Let me know, and stay warm out there!
