Inside Katie Taylor’s family life from fallouts to tying the knot in secret

Win or lose, one thing’s for certain and that’s that Katie Taylor always has her supportive family in her corner.
Though they’re no longer together, the Bray woman’s parents, as well as her brothers and sister, frequently show up for her at her historic bouts, and speak publicly about their pride.
From her fallout with her dad, Pete, to tying the knot in private, here’s everything we know about Katie Taylor’s family life:

Katie was born on July 2, 1986 in Bray, Co Wicklow to her Irish mum, Bridget, and English-born dad, Pete. After meeting and marrying Bridget, Pete decided to settle in Bray.
The sportswoman is the youngest of four children. She has an older sister named Sarah, and two older brothers named Lee and Peter.

A love of sport ran in her veins, and as well as boxing, Katie played soccer, Gaelic football, and camogie. She was also a member of Bray Runners, a local athletics club.
It was always boxing she had a soft spot for, however, and eventually Pete became her full-time boxing coach, though he’s an electrician by trade.
Bridget also developed a grá for the sport and became one of the earliest female referees and judges in Ireland.

Katie fell out with her dad when he split from her mum. Pete went on to marry Karen Brown.
The father-daughter duo patched things up sometime around 2019, and he’s returned to publicly voicing his pride ever since.

‘She has good morals. She said if you’ve split up with my mother, then I don’t want you in my corner,’ he said in 2019. ‘She knew what the outcome would be.
‘She knew that she’d be missing me in the corner, but she still had the morals to go ahead and do that. You’ve got to respect that.’

Perhaps their reconciliation was spurred on by the realisation of life’s fragility. In June 2018, Pete was a victim in the Bray boxing club shooting. He was shot in the chest and arm, but survived his injuries.
In a statement released to the Irish Times after the incident, Katie said: ‘Following the horrific gun attack that took place in Bray Boxing Club early last Tuesday morning in which one man Bobby Messett was tragically killed and two others Ian Britton and my father Pete Taylor were seriously injured, there has been considerable public interest in all aspects of the event.
‘However, for personal reasons as well as ensuring clarity in future stories that will inevitably be written, I would like to make the following statement.’

‘First and foremost, I would like to wish my most heartfelt condolences to the family of Bobby Messett for their tragic loss. I can’t imagine the despair or the sense of injustice they must be dealing with. I’m praying they know God’s comfort in the hard days ahead.
‘For my Dad, I’m very thankful and relieved he made it through this horrific attack and is recovering well. I understand there is still a lot of uncertainty about the nature of the incident but I’m hoping the gardaí will get to the bottom of it very soon.’

‘As many of you know, I have been somewhat estranged from my Dad for a number of years now. I’ve had little contact with him in the last three years and no contact or association whatsoever with Bray Boxing Club since 2015,’ she continued. Katie went on to ask for privacy for her family over the matter.

There’s no love like a mother’s, and Katie has previously gushed that her beloved mum, Bridget, is her ‘biggest supporter’.
Katie couldn’t contain her emotions during her pre-fight press conference in the build-up to her bout with Amanda Serrano last November.
After a long pause, she told reporters: ‘It’s amazing. She’s the biggest support,’ through tears. ‘I have to compose myself. I’m still a small bit emotional.’
Relationship

Katie keeps her personal and professional life very much separate and is very private about her life outside of the ring.
Speaking previously to The Athletic, Katie went as far as to call questions about her relationship status ‘annoying’.
When asked what FAQs she’s sick of answering, the Irishwoman said: ‘Probably the question about relationships. That’s another question people always ask, adding that while she understands fans’ intrigue, ‘it’s a bit annoying at times, but I’m just polite and get on with it’.

In July 2025, Katie sparked speculation that she had tied the knot when she was spotted sporting a wedding band on that finger.
Little surprise then that the sportswoman didn’t comment on the news herself; Instead, her dad confirmed that she is, in fact, a married woman.
During his appearance on the Anything Goes podcast with James English, Peter said: ‘Ever since the fight there with Katie, people are seeing the two of us back together, even some of the s*** you hear about that.’

‘I was reading somewhere that “Katie Taylor never got married because of her father, he wouldn’t let her”,’ he said, before confirming: ‘Katie’s married, you know, and I’m thinking, ‘where are you getting this s*** from?”‘
In September, Katie’s husband was seen for the first time in a picture from the boxer’s visit to the Tigin Men’s Centre in Ashford, Co Wicklow.
The newlywed couple posed for a snap with Senator Aubrey McCarthy, founder of the organisation.

Per the Sunday World, Katie has known Seán for several years and has even been on holiday with his family in the past.
It’s believed she met Sean and his then-wife, Alicia, while attending the same church in their local area in the United States, after the boxer had moved there in 2016.
In October of 2023, Alicia died suddenly at the age of 43. The couple shared five children, two sons and three daughters, who range in age from 11 to 23, and Katie is now stepmum to them.
