Cooper Flagg Stats Tonight: Mavericks Rookie Gets Schooled by Luka Doncic in NBA Cup Loss Against Lakers (Nov. 28)

Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg battled against Luka Doncic and the LA Lakers for the first time in his career during an NBA Cup clash on Friday. Flagg led the Mavericks’ starting lineup, which featured a couple of decisive changes. Anthony Davis returned after missing 14 consecutive games, while rookie Ryan Nembhard received his first career start.

Max Christie and P.J. Washington rounded out the Mavericks’ starting lineup. Daniel Gafford and Brandon Williams were moved to the bench to accommodate Davis and Nembhard in the starting five.

Flagg was totally uninvolved during the first five minutes of the game. His offensive impact was minimal, with only one assist to his name before he went to the bench for his first spell on the sidelines. The rookie’s first shot attempt of the quarter came in the 11th minute, and he swished a mid-range jumper. He had two points, one rebound and one assist in nine first-quarter minutes.

Flagg displayed his all-round skillset in the second period, stuffing the stat sheet by making a big impact on both ends of the floor. He scored five points in the frame and dominated the glass, pulling down crucial rebounds.

At halftime, Cooper Flagg had seven points on 3 of 5 shooting, including 1 of 2 from beyond the arc. He also recorded four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 17 minutes.

Flagg recorded just two points in the penultimate quarter, but his playmaking shone through. The rookie recorded five dimes in the period and helped the Mavericks stay within striking distance by the end of the third quarter.

Flagg dropped four points and four assists in the final quarter, but his effort wasn’t enough for the Mavericks to get past a streaking Lakers squad. The Mavericks fell to a 129-119 loss, ending their NBA Cup campaign with a 1-3 record.
