‘The unimaginable has happened’ — Niamh Cullen’s husband Jamie dies weeks after first wedding anniversary

Niamh Cullen has paid an emotional tribute following the death of her husband Jamie Gill.

The devastating news comes not long after the couple celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary, with their lives being turned upside down in the days following the nuptials.

Niamh and Jamie tied the knot in a stunning ceremony in Borgo di Tragliata in Italy last November, surrounded by their nearest and dearest.

Taking to social media on Saturday, Niamh shared a video of her and Jamie, writing: ‘The unimaginable has happened. Our worst nightmare.

‘My beautiful husband has been taken from us.’

She added: ‘The light of my life. I was the luckiest to be loved and adored by you Jamie. I love you endlessly, not just now, but eternally.’

It comes not long after Niamh opened up on her husband’s recent health battles, which began during their mini-moon in Rome when he was hospitalised for ten days.

Niamh shared her husband’s cancer diagnosis earlier in the month, when she commemorated their first wedding anniversary and praised his ‘strength throughout this entire journey.’

The Dublin native detailed how a major surgery before Christmas last year resulted in the discovery of a cancerous tumour.

Following his tenth chemotherapy session, Jamie was rushed to the hospital once again, where he was diagnosed with sepsis, which then led to pneumonia.

‘I don’t think I’ll ever be able to articulate Jamie’s strength throughout this entire journey. He never ceases to amaze me with his incredible positive outlook and mindset, even in the darkest moments.’

Friends and followers rushed to the comments to express their sympathies, with Aimee Connolly writing: ‘Niamh this is such a gorgeous video. I am heartbroken for you guys. Thinking of you all.’

Katja Mia said: ‘Niamh this is heart shattering, I can’t imagine your pain and I’m so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you and your family, sending you all the love.’

98FM’s Paul Ryder added: ‘Niamh, my heart aches for you and those closest to you and your husband. Thinking of you and sending you all the love in this world.’
