The question plaguing millions of music lovers right now

At this time every year, one question plagues millions around the world – and no, it isn’t “but how is it November already?”
We are talking, of course, about the eternal mystery of Spotify Wrapped, the release date of which is never publicly revealed ahead of the day.
All we know from previous years is that the annual recap of individual Spotify users’ listening habits drops in the final days of November or the first week of December.

That leaves the service’s more than 7 million users in a state of apprehension as they await their personalised report, with searches for ‘When does Spotify Wrapped drop’ and ‘Spotify Wrapped release date’ inevitably trending each year.
(We all know what they’re really asking: ‘Can I safely start listening to Christmas music now without it skewing my results?’)
Here’s what we do know, and what we don’t.

What is Spotify Wrapped?
It’s a personalised rundown of each Spotify user’s listening habits, detailing their top musical artists, songs, albums and genres using data from the past year. If you listen to podcasts and audiobooks on Spotify, they will also feature in the report.
Wrapped also reveals global listening trends, revealing the most listened-to artists and songs among all Spotify users, and can inform users if they are in a particular artist’s top listeners for the year.
Recent years have brought some kooky additions, including a user’s musical ‘aura’ or labels for their listening ‘phases’ throughout the year. (Shoutout to all the ‘pink pilates princesses’!)
You’ll often see people sharing their results, presented in colourful Top 5 graphics, on social media.
How do I get Spotify Wrapped?
As the name indicates, this is a service for Spotify users, so if you don’t have an account you won’t be eligible for one.
As the Spotify website puts it: “All you need is an account and a few hours of listening.”
Other major streaming platforms like Apple Music and YouTube Music have developed their own versions of Wrapped in recent years.

When does Spotify Wrapped come out in Australia?
Sorry, we’re just as in the dark about this as you are.
In previous years, Wrapped – which began in 2016 – has dropped between November 30 and December 6.
The 2024 release date of December 4 was late compared to 2023 (November 29) and 2022 (November 30). However, between 2016 and 2021, Wrapped consistently dropped in December.
When does Spotify Wrapped stop collecting data?
Another tricky question!
Spotify has never confirmed the exact cut-off date for Wrapped data collection.
The tracking period begins at the start of January each year, and the company has denied rumours it ends on October 31, so it likely falls sometime in November.
We do know any streaming you do for the rest of the year after Wrapped drops doesn’t count towards the following year’s report – hence the freedom to go wild on Christmas music (or any other ‘guilty pleasure’ picks) in December without fear of consequences.
How do you see your Wrapped on Spotify?

On release date, it’s pretty hard (nay, impossible) to miss – a large, colourful ‘Wrapped’ banner usually appears on screen when you open the Spotify mobile app. Tap it and your 2025 data will be displayed in an interactive roundup.
On desktop, you can simply visit the URL spotify.com/us/wrapped/.
