A winter snowstorm slowly moved into southern Minnesota on Friday night. It’s expected to drag across the state into Saturday.
A winter storm warning is in effect for the majority of southern Minnesota through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
A winter weather advisory is in place for Renville, Sibley and Yellow Medicine through Saturday. A similar advisory was set to take effect for western Minnesota counties and the metro at midnight.
WCCO has issued a NEXT Weather Alert, which is in effect through Saturday.
The snow started in southwestern Minnesota Friday night and will expand across southern and eastern Minnesota on Saturday. Areas along I-90 could see 6 to 10 inches, Redwood Falls and Red Wing may see between 3 and 5 inches and Faribault could see 4 to 6 inches.
In the Twin Cities, 3 to 4 inches is likely, with 2 to 4 inches in the north metro.
Sharply colder air arrives behind the storm. High temperatures on Saturday will be in the mid-20s with wind chills in the teens.
On Sunday, high temperatures will be in the teens with wind chills in the single digits.
High temperatures next week will be between the teens and 20s, with another chance for snow at the end of the work week.
