John Cena Loses WWE IC Title to Dom Mysterio as Liv Morgan Returns from Injury

In the final premium live event match of his legendary career, John Cena lost the Intercontinental Championship to Dominik Mysterio as Liv Morgan returned from injury at WWE Survivor Series on Saturday.
Morgan, who injured her shoulder in June during a match against Kairi Sane, was quick to troll Cena after helping Mysterio take home the Intercontinental Championship.
After Cena had seen off interference from Finn Balor and JD McDonagh, Morgan made her return to WWE. However, she slapped Dom before jumping into The GOAT’s arms.
She whispered into Cena’s ear and then hit him with a low blow. Mysterio used a 619 to floor the titleholder before Morgan struck The Unseen 17 with the IC belt.
A frog splash from Dom then ensured he took the championship from Cena.
A few weeks ago on Raw, Dirty Dom interrupted a Cena promo and treated the 17-time world champion with the utmost disrespect in front of his own hometown fans in Boston.
WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H was in the ring to get a first-hand look at the confrontation, and he decided to book an Intercontinental Championship match between the two men on the spot.
Cena went on to win the match, becoming IC champion for the first time ever, and completing the qualifications needed to be recognized as a Grand Slam champion in WWE.
The following week at Madison Square Garden in New York City during the final Raw appearance of Cena’s in-ring career, Dominik confronted him again, prompting The GOAT to challenge him to a match right then and there.
Dom refused, insisting instead to have the contest at Survivor Series in his hometown of San Diego, and Cena obliged.
However, when Dominik’s Judgment Day stablemates, Balor and McDonagh, came to the ring to launch an attack against Cena, chaos erupted, as Sheamus and Rey Mysterio ran down to even the odds.
Cena, Sheamus and Rey went on to beat The Judgment Day in a six-man tag team match, placing all of the momentum on Cena’s side entering Survivor Series.
Dominik had home-field advantage in San Diego, but since it was Cena’s last PLE before retirement, he had plenty of fans on his side as well.
Mysterio went on to win the match and become a two-time IC champ, meaning Cena will not have a title in tow when he enters his final match at the Dec. 13 Saturday Night’s Main Event against the winner of the Last Time Is Now tournament.
