Messy winter weather on the way

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Messy weather is on the way to the Mid-Ohio Valley. Tuesday will be closely monitored for the threat of rain and snow. It will be a First Alert Weather Day as the likelihood of snow accumulation of over an inch increases and impacts to road conditions in the morning also increases.

Messy winter weather is on the way to the Mid-Ohio Valley for Tuesday.

There is a round of snow showers and rain moving through overnight tonight. The amount of precipitation during this round will be limited. This means that any snow accumulation we see overnight tonight will be at most a dusting and then that will melt away as temperatures increase through the morning. A few showers will move through late in the morning and the rest of Sunday will be dry. However, it will be windy in the afternoon with gusts up to 30 mph. Winds will diminish heading into the evening.

Tuesday continues to be closely monitored for winter weather. A First Alert Weather Day has been declared for Tuesday as the likelihood of snow accumulation of over an inch increases. There is still plenty of uncertainty on how much precipitation the Mid-Ohio Valley will see and how a wedge of warm air will influence the mix of rain and snow. For now, snow showers should move in late Monday night. Warm air could then funnel into the region Tuesday morning and swap the snow over the rain. The rain snow line may set up along the Ohio River with a better chance of snow north of the line. However, this line will shift either north or south of the river as more model runs come in ahead of Tuesday.

The mix of rain and snow will persist through the morning. There has been consistency in the models for all the precipitation to move out around the late afternoon and into the evening. Now, Tuesday night is expected to drop below freezing. So, there may still be some slick spots around the region Wednesday morning. Afterwards, we will remain dry for Wednesday and Thursday and temperatures during the day will be above freezing. So, any roads impacted by the winter weather Tuesday will easily be cleared up by Wednesday.
