Vanderbilt football coach Clark Lea talks about Diego Pavia’s value, what he means to program after win vs Tennessee
A long, exhausting and seldom boring 2025 SEC football regular season has come to an end, with only two teams left to vie for a conference championship.
Next Saturday, No. 4 Georgia and No. 10 Alabama will square off at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to see who will earn the SEC’s automatic berth (and an almost-certain first-round bye) in the College Football Playoff.
How the league got there in Week 14 was quite the journey.
No. 10 Alabama got a late Ty Simpson touchdown pass to Isaiah Horton to hold on for dear life to defeat Auburn 27-20 in a predictably chaotic Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium — a win that almost certainly clinched a spot in the playoff for coach Kalen DeBoer’s Crimson Tide.
No. 12 Vanderbilt (No. 14 CFP) earned a resounding 45-24 victory against in-state rival No. 18 Tennessee (No. 19 CFP) behind 433 total yards and two touchdowns from Diego Pavia. The win was the Commodores’ 10th of the season and kept their playoff hopes alive.
Elsewhere, No. 8 Oklahoma avoided what would have been a gutting upset at the hands of LSU with a 17-13 victory, No. 16 Texas ended rival No. 3 Texas A&M’s perfect season with a 27-17 win and No. 4 Georgia held off No. 19 Georgia Tech (No. 23 CFP) for a 16-9 victory.
