That could be huge, an extra two points in the championship gifted to Lando Norris!

Sainz is struggling with that understeer.
Antonelli is chasing him down and is not far away from getting into a DRS zone.
Can Norris make the most of this closing of Antonelli on Sainz?
He’s running out of time to do it.

Lap 54/57: Verstappen streaking ahead
There is no battle for the lead in this race.
Max Verstappen is 12 seconds ahead of Oscar Piastri, who is safe in second, 12 seconds ahead of Sainz.
Antonelli is a second further back and Lando Norris is inside a second to the Italian.

Lap 51/57: Norris can’t get past Antonelli
Brilliant stuff from the Italian, who is just holding the distance to Norris.
Norris is struggling enormously to close this gap and he is surrendering so many points in the title race as a result!
BUT MORE DRAMA!
Carlos Sainz calls the radio in a panic saying that he’s got understeer on the right corners and thinks that something has fallen off the car!

Lap 48/57: Norris takes a second out of Antonelli
The championship leader is fighting for his life here.
If things stay the way they are, Verstappen will head to Abu Dhabi just 10 points behind Norris in second spot.
He was 104 points off the lead in August.
Astonishing.

Lap 45/57: IN COMES NORRIS!
Big call from McLaren.
A slow, 2.7 second stop that could see Lando Norris fall to fifth!
AND HE DOES!
Norris HAS to overtake Kimi Antonelli and Carlos Sainz if he is to stay in touch with his teammate and Max Verstappen!
It’s setting things up beautifully for the last race of the season next weekend!

Lap 43/57: Oscar Piastri comes into the pits
Piastri comes in with a 1.8 second stop. That’s brilliant.
Piastri is looking to chase Verstappen down, on a fresher set of tyres.
Norris is struggling to hold out Verstappen, who is all of a sudden within a second of the McLaren.
If Norris can hold off Verstappen a bit then he will be helping Piastri win the race, to the detriment of his own hopes for the title!
He does have seven laps to play with.
Norris can’t pit yet though, because he’ll be released after Carlos Sainz.

Lap 41/57: Piastri wants to change tyres
Here comes the flexibility in the strategy.
Piastri is struggling on those tyres and is not making enough of a difference to the lead that Verstappen will have once the pit stops are taken.
He wants to change and is debating that at the moment.
“I don’t see a better option at the moment,” Piastri says.
As he is debating, there’s a big moment for the Australian.
Surely that makes the decision for McLaren.

Lap 39/57: Piastri can pit and rejoin behind Verstappen
And, crucially, ahead of Carlos Sainz.
So now, the only thing standing between him and a race win, will be Max Verstappen.
He is holding his pace and is just two seconds behind Norris as things stand.
Verstappen is definitely in the box seat.

Lap 37/57: Norris has a bit moment on turn 14
He’s done well to keep it together there, Lando Norris.
He just lost shape a bit on the exit of turn 14 and had to really work the steering wheel to say on track.
He did so but has radioed to ask the team to check for damage.
It seems it’s OK.

Lap 37/57: Change of strategy for McLaren
“We need to weigh up what the best idea is, in terms of trying to get a safety car or just beating him on pace,” Piastri says on the team radio.
I assume he’s talking about Verstappen, because at the moment the gap is eight seconds – and it needs to be a lot larger.
