‘We don’t want to give that up’ – Michael Duff on Wycombe’s unbeaten record

Wycombe Wanderers head coach Michael Duff ‘doesn’t want to give up’ his side’s current unbeaten record as they prepare to face Northampton Town in the EFL Trophy.

The Chairboys last tasted defeat on September 27 when they lost 2-1 away at AFC Wimbledon, in which the Adams Park team had a legitimately good goal disallowed in stoppage time.

Since then, Wanderers have not lost any of their last 12 games in all competitions, winning seven times and drawing on five occasions.

Speaking ahead of their trip to Sixfields this evening [December 2], Duff said: “We’ll count the bodies and see what has happened with illnesses and who will be back.

“We are going to pick a team that we believe will be good enough to win [the tie].

“We’re 12 unbeaten in all competitions, so we don’t want to give that up, regardless of whether it’s a cup game or not.

“We’re in the knockout stages now, and if we can do the good bits [from Rotherham] and eradicate the poor bits [from Rotherham], hopefully we’ll be alright.”

Wycombe were eliminated from this round of the competition 12 months ago, when they lost 2-1 at home to Swindon Town.

In all competitions, Wanderers have faced Northampton 39 times, winning 14 of those matches.

Sixteen have ended in draws, whilst the Cobblers have recorded nine victories.

Out of those 39 games, eight have been in cup competitions, three in the EFL Trophy.

The previous fixtures occurred in the 2009/10, 2016/17 and 2018/19 seasons respectively.
