Report: Steelers, cornerback Darius Slay mutually agree to part ways

The Pittsburgh Steelers are moving on from a free-agent signing.
Six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay and the Steelers mutually agreed to part ways, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Tuesday.
In a corresponding move, the Steelers are signing CB Asante Samuel Jr. from the practice squad to the active roster, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported.
Samuel signed with the team on Nov. 11 after he underwent spinal-fusion surgery in April, causing him to miss the first two months of the NFL season.
Slay signed a one-year contract this past off-season with the Steelers, where he struggled on the field, leading to him being a healthy scratch for Sunday’s 26-7 loss against the Buffalo Bills.
The 34-year-old began his career with the Detroit Lions in 2013 after being drafted 36th overall. During his time with the Lions, he made three Pro Bowl appearances and was named first team all-pro in 2017.
He was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019, where he made another three Pro Bowl appearances and won a Super Bowl in February.
Slay was released by the Eagles in March.
In 10 games with the Steelers, Slay had 36 tackles and no interceptions.
The veteran cornerback will look to sign with another team once he clears waivers, per Schefter.
