Worrying scene as Jakub Dobes leaves drill after late-practice shot in Brossard

A slightly worrying scene in Brossard this morning for Jakub Dobes.
At the very end of today’s practice in Brossard, the 23-year-old goaltender took a shot from Oliver Kapanen directly on the arm. The shot went through the equipment, and Dobes immediately twisted in pain, visibly stunned by the impact.
For a few moments, no one on the ice was talking. The young goaltender left the drill holding his arm, before briefly returning around his teammates. From a distance, he seemed able to finish the session, but it was really the very end of practice and you could see he was testing the arm cautiously.
Impossible to say, for now, whether it’s just a solid “bruise” or something more serious.
Jakub Dobes suddenly leaves a drill, in pain…
Dobes is currently fighting for a spot in Montreal after significant progression in the organization since arriving in Laval in 2023.
He’s coming off a season in the American League where he surpassed the 40-game mark, while keeping an average under 3 goals per game and a save percentage above 0.900. For a rookie goaltender, that was already a strong message sent to management.
As Marc-Olivier Cook mentioned on his X account, Dobes seemed a bit better a few minutes later, but the camera had already moved away.
“Jakub Dobes was hurting after taking a shot from Oliver Kapanen on the arm. It looks painful.”
But he seems OK nonetheless. Lucky break…”
– Cook
We will therefore be watching the next practices in Brossard closely.
Dobes is at the heart of a strong internal battle in net, and every session counts for him. After this kind of shot, the real verdict often comes only once the adrenaline wears off.
For now, it’s mostly a big sigh of relief to see that Dobes was able to stay on the ice.
