Survivor 49 – Next Time On Survivor – Episode 11

Welcome to Season 49’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.
The NTOS trailer begins by trying to stir up drama among the solid alliance of Sophi, Rizo, and Savannah. Sophi states, “Savannah and Rizo… I want to go for them too,” suggesting that she’s intending to turn on her alliance. However, the sentence is spliced together rather weirdly in the trailer, so I wouldn’t regard it too highly.
In any case, I don’t see Sophi turning against both Rizo and Savannah as she doesn’t seem close to anyone else, besides maybe Sophie. I don’t think she’ll be able to gather the numbers to make the move, and she seems more of a follower who goes with a plan to isolate one of the two players, rather than spearhead one herself. Until the circumstances line up neatly for her, I don’t think we’ll see Sophi leaving her comfortable alliance with Savannah and Rizo.

Interestingly, the trailer also shows a quick shot of Sophi and Sophie bonding. It seems like they’ve been growing closer since the vote after the merge. I can see this happening strategically as a counterbalance against Rizo and Savannah, who have been together since Day 1. I’m curious to see what damage this pairing will do, or if they’ll try to take a shot against Rizo and Savannah. After all, Sophie was in a good spot last episode to ultimately decide the votes.
Another noteworthy portion of the trailer highlights Sage in tears and sounding hurt and betrayed by Sophie. She cries, “You had the biggest smile on your face,” which I assume refers to Sophie smiling when the votes were read at the last tribal council, which ended with Sage getting blindsided and her closest ally, Jawan, going home.

From various moments earlier in the episode, we can put together that Sage was trying to play in the middle of two alliances, but ultimately failed. She likely blames Sophie for revealing her plan to blindside Savannah and Rizo, which is something Rizo mentions in the sneak preview scene. With her game now blown up and her closest alliance gone, Sage declares, “When you piss me off, you go home,” sounding like the start of her revenge journey.
If Sage’s target is indeed Sophie, I think it’ll be a rather straightforward pitch to other players. Sophie is a challenge threat who will continue winning individual immunity, and has flipped on her alliances before. However, with seven players left, I think it’s more likely that the majority would keep their focus on getting Rizo out or at least flush the idol that he’s been holding onto for so many tribal councils. My prediction is that whatever pitch Sage makes, it ultimately backfires on her and she gets voted out for being an untrustworthy alliance member.
