Some parts of the Greater Toronto Area should watch for potentially hazardous snow conditions Thursday, Environment Canada warns.

The weather agency issued a snow squall warning for Newmarket, Georgina and Northern York, with total snowfall amounts between 10 to 20 centimetres possible.

The snow should last into the afternoon, forecasters say, with the bulk of the accumulation “along and north of a line from Newmarket to Uxbridge to Port Perry.”

The snow will be accompanied by northwesterly winds gusting 50 to 60 km/h.

“As a result, blowing snow will further reduce visibility. Conditions are expected to improve this evening,” the warning reads.

“Travel will likely be hazardous. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced to near zero at times.”

Environment Canada says there is “uncertainty” as to the exact location of any developing snow squalls, and accumulations “may be quite variable across the region.”

A special weather statement is also in effect for Vaughan.

Though accumulation levels are lower at five centimetres, forecasters warn that heavy snow may result in reduced visibility, and roads and walkways may become difficult to navigate.
