Al Michaels caught fans’ attention on social media, though not in a good way.
Prime Video is broadcasting the Thursday Night Football clash between the Dallas Cowboys with Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit on the call. However, it was clear that fans were focused on Michaels’ hair, as the 81-year-old’s decision to have a comb-over drew the attention of viewers.
Despite his advanced age, Michaels has shot down any rumors of his retirement, expressing his desire to return to the booth in 2026. The 81-year-old signed a three-year, $45 million contract with Amazon in 2022 and a one-year deal in 2025 as he continues to ponder his future.

That said, fans made note of Michaels’ appearance in the latest iteration of Thursday Night Football. “Does Al Michaels think we don’t see his comb-over?” a fan posted on X in response to seeing the veteran announcer’s appearance.
Another fan commented, “Al Michaels’ hair is on one tonight,” while a third fan posted: “Al Michaels needs to give up on the combover.”
“Wow, Al Michaels looks old!” a poster succintly wrote on social media. Lastly, a fan noted that it was time for Michaels to call it a career, his hair notwithstanding, as he continues to show his age during the call, leaving viewers wanting more out of the 81-year-old.

“He needs to hang it up. Brutal on his actual commentary too. No excitement. Makes mistakes. It’s bad,” a commentator noted regarding the job Michaels had done Thursday night.
Despite how some fans might see the veteran announcer, Michaels explained to Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina that he “feels really good” and would like to continue working. “It’s been a good year, a lot of fun. And as I say, I I love the people I’m working with. So if I had to make a decision today, I would want to come back,” he stated.
That said, Michaels understands that it ultimately is up to Amazon if he is to return to Prime Video next season as its main play-by-play announcer.

“It’s a two-way street here,” he added to the outlet.
“They can tell me, ‘Hey, we got to move on. It’s time to make a transition,’ all that. I don’t know, that could happen. But as of the moment, as we sit here on this mid-November afternoon, I feel really good, still love what I do.
“And, again, I work with a tremendous crew. So, yeah, I think at this moment in time, yeah, I would like to continue, yes.”
Michaels also stated to Dan Patrick in the past that he would only continue in the booth if he had “the passion for it.” He also admitted, “But I’m not sitting here going, ‘I’ve got to do this until I die, or I’ve got to set some kind of broadcasting record.’ No, not at all.”
