Presenter Roman Kemp was left declaring “wow” after making history on Celebrity Race Across The World.
The BBC show returned to screens on Thursday night (December 4) for its penultimate episode. During the instalment, the famous faces were tasked with reaching Medellín, Colombia’s second-largest metropolis.
In a bid to reach the checkpoint first, Roman and sister Harleymoon headed to Guna Yala region and visited a very remote island. Pulling up in a boat, Harleymoon admitted: “I’ve literally never ever in my life been somewhere this remote.”
The famous siblings ended up staying with a family who had lived on the island for generations. And it didn’t take long for Roman to throw himself into Guna life.

The following day Roman helped out Senor Blas collect food supplies from his farm on the mainland, where plantain fields line the coast. However, Roman ended up making history, leaving him stunned.
“No tourists have entered this part of the jungle before. You are the first,” Senor Blas said as he entered the jungle with Roman. A floored Roman quipped: “We’re the first?! Wow.”

As Roman got stuck into collecting food from the jungle, he said: “This feels like a proper step into the jungle. This is hard work. These plantains are not light either.” He then admitted: “It’s a really nice feeling. You’re not thinking about anything, and you’ve just got a job to do.”
Later on, Roman made a heartbreaking confession as he reflected on a dark period in his life. The radio presenter said that the landscape on the island showed him that “there’s stuff worth living for”.
He opened up about a dark time
Speaking to the camera, he said: “There’s been moments in my life where I didn’t even want to be here anymore and things like this make me think that if I’d made different decisions then I would never have seen this or I never would have experienced this.”
He continued: “It was a bad time in my life. I remember one moment in particular where it was really bad. I just remember my mum passing the phone to Harley and Harley trying to just talk to me to try and distract me and keep me on the phone so that my mum could get in the car and drive to me.
“I don’t think I have ever spoken to Harley about that call. I don’t think we’ve ever been ready to have that conversation. That’s hard to talk about man.”
Celebrity Race Across The World continues every Thursday at 8pm on BBC One.
