All Edinburgh Airport flights halted as IT issue causes travel chaos

Edinburgh Airport bosses have warned travellers that flights from the capital’s airport have been halted.

The announcement was issued on Friday, December 5 at 9.29am with bosses saying they are working to resolve the issue “as soon as possible”.

An IT issue with air traffic control has occurred and rendered flights unsafe to operate. FlightRadar24 shows several planes circling above the city, with some seemingly already being diverted elsewhere.

One Delta Airlines flight has also issued a 7700 Squawk code – signalling a general emergency onboard. It was on its way from New York to the capital when all flights were grounded.

The nature of the issue is not currently know and it is unclear how long it will be before operations are running again.

An Edinburgh Airport spokesperson said: “Due to an IT issue with our air traffic control provider, no flights are currently operating from Edinburgh Airport.

“Teams are working on the issue and will resolve as soon as possible.

“We will provide you with updates when possible. Please contact your airline for the latest information on your flight.”
