Bryson DeChambeau and Shane Lowry were Ryder Cup opponents in 2025 and Masters opponents in 2020, where the American decided to make controversial comments before going for the Green Jacket.

Augusta National is one of the most prestigious courses in the world and maintains a certain level of class that DeChambeau cracked before teeing off on Thursday in 2020. The two-time U.S. Open Champion hyped himself up before teeing off at the Masters against Tiger Woods and many of the world’s best players.

“I’m looking at it as a par 67 for me because I can reach all the par fives in two, no problem,” DeChambeau famously said. “If the conditions stay the way they are, that’s what I feel like par is for me.

“There is definitely a possibility I don’t play well, and I could shoot whatever every day and shoot a lot over par relative to my par and still play decent.”

DeChambeau was a pre-tournament favorite but finished outside of the top-30 at two-under-par and ended up getting sick during the tournament.

“I’ve got to fix whatever is going on up here. I have no idea. Just dizziness. It’s only when I go from down to up, so I can’t even, like, think and talk right now,” said DeChambeau after the final round in 2020.

“But that’s just what happens, I go down and up, and my brain gets all disoriented.

“There was numerous times where I was over it, and I just felt super uncomfortable. I couldn’t see anything. I couldn’t see the line. It was really weird. I missed a lot of putts today.”

Lowry chimed in on the conversation and said it’s not that easy to win the biggest golf tournament in the world.

“You don’t just rock up and win golf tournaments,” the 2019 Open champion explained. “It’s not that easy. To be honest, I thought that Bryson was building himself up for a big fall.

“I’m not like that. I don’t like to talk myself up. I try and go about my business by coming in under the radar. Obviously, Bryson likes talking and putting it all out there, but I thought he was building himself up for a big fall last week because going out and saying Augusta is a par-67. He’s basically saying the third hole is a par-3, but it’s 360 yards.

Even though Lowry threw shade, he did have some positive comments on DeChambeau’s work ethic.

“He is what he is. Bryson goes on about all this science in golf, but he probably works harder than anyone. He puts more time and effort into his golf than the majority of people, and that’s why he’s so good.”

And DeChambeau followed up his disappointment at the Masters by winning the U.S. Open in 2020, repeating the feat four years later.
