NBA Insider Reveals Harsh Reality About Anthony Davis’ Market Amid Trade Rumors

As the Dallas Mavericks explore their future options, 10-Time All-Star Anthony Davis has been heavily discussed as a potential trade candidate. Reports surfaced that the Mavericks are open to trading Davis while they retool around this year’s first overall pick, Cooper Flagg. While discussing Davis’s trade value, a top NBA insider provided discouraging news for his fans.

What Did an NBA Insider Reveal About Anthony Davis?

While discussing the trade value of some top stars around the league, NBA insider Brian Windhorst offered a harsh outlook for Davis on the Hoop Collective podcast.

Windhorst said, “I don’t know what the value of Anthony Davis is. Some of the stuff that I have heard from executives talking to me about what they think Anthony Davis’s trade value is, I’m not even gonna say it.”

He added, “What I have heard what people are saying Anthony Davis’s trade value is right now, not because of him as a player, to be clear, because he’s diminished as a player, but because of the idea of paying an injury prone 30, mid-30s guy, 50, $60 million in the apron era is unpalatable.”

Davis recently returned to action after missing a month while dealing with a calf strain. The Mavericks have a 2-1 record since he returned to the lineup. Davis is averaging 20.6 points and 10.8 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 52 percent from the field.

Despite the impressive statistics, Davis currently has his lowest offensive rating in four seasons, at 110.3, and a negative plus/minus ratio.

The Mavs are building some momentum, though, and are only a game and a half back of the final spot in the Western Conference Play-In Tournament.

Flagg has become more comfortable now that he’s no longer the team’s primary point guard, and perhaps Davis’ return will allow the Mavs to move up the standings this month.

As Windhorst points out, however, Davis’s long-term future remains unclear. While it’s unlikely the Mavs will trade Davis at the deadline if they’re holding a playoff spot, he will likely be on the trade block this upcoming summer.

Davis still has a guaranteed year on his contract after the season at $58.4 million, followed by a player option at $62.7 million that he’ll opt into unless there’s a better deal on the table.

Windhorst shared that teams aren’t exactly excited about the thought of paying Davis in the coming years, given the salary cap restrictions, especially as the already injury-prone Davis ages and becomes even more vulnerable to injury.

Davis can improve his trade value in the short term by avoiding another injury this season and maintaining his level of play.
