It’s a Not-So-Jolly Month To Be a ‘Rick and Morty’ Fan

2026 will be a bad year for Rick and Morty fans, as the hit science-fiction animated series will be leaving Netflix. This award-winning animated series, starring Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden, was available on the streaming giant for multiple countries, but that will soon come to an end, thus requiring fans to seek out other platforms that host the show.

According to ComicBook.com, Rick and Morty will be pulled from Netflix on December 30th and 31st, making the show inaccessible to fans in Germany, Greece, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. For North American viewers, Rick and Morty isn’t available on Netflix; it’s available to stream on Hulu and HBO Max.

Rick and Morty premiered on December 2, 2013, and has since released 81 episodes across eight seasons. The series was highly praised by fans and critics alike and has received numerous accolades. But despite its success, Rick and Morty‘s creator, Justin Roiland, became a controversial figure, as it was alleged that he was charged with domestic battery and false imprisonment, and his comments on social media were met with criticism. This led him to leave the show, thereby recasting the two main characters.

What’s ‘Rick and Morty’ About

Rick and Morty follows a grandfather-and-grandson duo, Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, who travel across the universe and multiverse to partake in wacky sci-fi adventures. Meanwhile, the rest of the Smith family, Summer (Spencer Grammer), Jerry (Chris Parnell), and Beth (Sarah Chalke), have to deal with their mundane everyday problems, with a bit of sci-fi mixed in. As Rick and Morty progress, we learn that Rick isn’t the original Rick from Beth’s dimension. He moved into an alternate Beth’s world and assumed the role of her father while secretly using that universe as a base to hunt down Rick Prime, a Rick variant who killed Rick’s family.

Season 8 of Rick and Morty premiered in May 2025, featuring more drama, more adventures, and guest appearances from James Gunn and Zack Snyder. Season 8 isn’t the end of Rick and Morty, as it has been confirmed that the show will receive four more seasons. Additionally, there’s a spin-off in the works, a show based on Andre Curtis, the President of the U.S. It’s called President Curtis and will have Keith David reprising his role. Also starring in the show are Stephanie Beatriz and Jim Rash. As of writing, it has no official release date.

Rick and Morty is available to stream on HBO Max.
