Rohit Sharma joins Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli in 20,000 international run club
Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have got India off to a flying start in their hase of a target of 271 in the third ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. Rohit in particular was in sublime touch, scoring his 61st ODI half-century in 54 balls. He couldn’t convert it into a 34th century in the format though, falling to Keshav Maharaj in the 26th over on 75 off 73 balls. His opening stand with Jaiswal ended on 155, with the latter going past 50 for the first time in his ODI career.
Over the course of the innings, the former India captain went past 20,000 career runs in international cricket. Rohit is just the fourth Indian to go past the mark, joining his longtime teammate Virat Kohli and fellow batting greats Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid in being the only players from the country to have done so. At the time that Rohit was batting with Jaiswal, Kohli, who is batting at No. for India, had 27,910 runs to his name in international cricket.

Rohit goes past AB de Villiers
Dravid, who won the 2024 T20 World Cup last year as India head coach with Rohit as his captain, retired with 24,208 runs. Tendulkar, who shared the Indian dressing room with Rohit in the latter’s early years, finished in 2013 with 34,357 runs. Overall, Tendulkar is the highest run scorer of all time in international cricket while Kohli is third, behind Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara. Dravid is seventh while Rohit went past South Africa’s AB de Villiers to get to 13 on the all-time list.
India earlier managed to pull things back after Quinton de Kock scored a dominant century. South Africa looked primed for a 300-plus total during De Kock and captain Temba Bavuma’s 113-run stand for the second wicket and when the former stepped up after the latter fell. However, Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav wrestled back the early initiative gained by South Africa to dismiss them for 270 in 47.5 overs. Both bowlers finished with four-wicket hauls.
