Blue Jays outright Yariel Rodriguez off 40-man roster

Toronto outrighted the right-handed reliever from its 40-man roster on Saturday, the team announced.

Rodriguez remains in the Blue Jays organization, and barring a change, is set to arrive at spring training and compete for a job on the big-league club, Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith added.

Rodriguez was solid out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays in 2025
— his second season with the team.

The 27-year-old posted 1.4 WAR, a 3.08 ERA, 66 strikeouts and 34 walks over 73.0 innings of regular-season work last season.

However, his numbers dropped significantly in the post-season, as he finished with a 10.13 ERA over four appearances during the Blue Jays’ run to the World Series.

The Blue Jays signed Rodriguez in February 2024 to a five-year contract worth $32 million.

Before joining Toronto for his first season in MLB, Rodriguez pitched in Cuba and Japan.
