Alfie Jones ineligible to play for Canada in friendly against Ecuador

Alfie Jones will not make his debut for Canada in Thursday’s friendly against Ecuador as he remains ineligible after not completing his citizenship process ahead of the match.
The 28-year-old central defender was born in Bristol, England and will be eligible to play for Canada through a grandparent on his mother’s side.
He was named as part of Jesse Marsch’s 24 player roster that will face both Ecuador and Venezuela during FIFA’s November international window.
Jones has appeared in 14 matches this season for Middlesbrough in the EFL Championship.
He has also played for Hull City in the Championship, Gillingham in League One and St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.
