Liverpool have struggled to defend their title losing six of their last nine top-flight matches.
Despite a brief return to winning form with a 2-0 victory over West Ham, Arne Slot’s side failed to inspire again, drawing 1-1 at home to Sunderland just 72 hours later.
Leeds United shocked Liverpool on Saturday night with a stoppage-time equaliser from Ao Tanaka, capping a thrilling six-goal second half at Elland Road.
Arne Slot’s future is under scrutiny but he believes he can still turns things around at Anfield.
“There is every reason to be positive”, Slot told reporters after the game.
Liverpool are in a mess at the moment.
Following Liverpool’s 4-1 home defeat to PSV in the Champions League, with fans audibly jeering the team at the final whistle.
Just months after guiding Liverpool to the Premier League title, Slot now faces massive uncertainty over his future as manager given the club’s current form.
When asked about his relationship with the hierarchy in the club last week he said: “Yeah but not in the sense that they tell me every single minute ‘we support you’, ‘we support you’, ‘we support you’.”
“We talk a lot. If we are winning, last season, and if we are losing. And then they are helpful to me, to the team.
“So yeah, we do have those conversations, but they don’t call me in every single minute of the day to tell me that they still trust me.
“We do have the normal conversations and in those conversations I feel the trust.
“But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet, so let’s see!”
Amid the Reds’ dismal run of results, speculation has intensified over a potential successor for Slot.
Liverpool sound out Steven Gerrard for interim role
A return to Anfield would create a compelling narrative for a player who rose through the ranks to become one of Liverpool’s all-time greats.
DaveOCKOP can exclusively reveal that Steven Gerrard is under consideration to step in on an interim basis if Arne Slot is sacked.
Gerrard earlier revealed he was “very close” to returning as Rangers manager but turned down the role after talks following Russell Martin’s departure.
The 45-year-old previously managed Rangers from 2018 to 2021, winning the 2020-21 Scottish title, before spells with Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq.
The Reds are also believed to be admirers of Julian Nagelsmann. The German will lead his side to next summer’s World Cup and could become available after the tournament.
Mohamed Salah and Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s relationship has turned sour, with Salah revealing that it has broken down.
The Egypt international was an unused substitute in Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United, marking the third consecutive match he has started on the bench.
After the game, Salah gave an extraordinary interview to journalists, claiming, “I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.
“I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship.
“I don’t know why but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.
“It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.
“This club, I will always support it. My kids will always support it. I love the club so much and I always will.
“It [the situation] is not acceptable to me, to be fair. I don’t get it. It’s like I’m being thrown more under the bus.
“I don’t think I’m the problem. I have done so much for this club. I don’t have to fight every day for my position because I earn it. I earned my position.”
