Storm Bram has brought severe conditions to across County Wicklow, which remains under a Status Orange wind warning as very strong winds, severe gusts and heavy rainfall drive flooding, power outages and widespread disruption.
In Arklow, several roads have been closed due to flooding, with significant surface water on South Green among other locations. Waves have been crashing over Arklow Pier as strong southerly winds combine with high tides, sending spray across the harbour area and prompting warnings for motorists and pedestrians.
Elsewhere in the county, hundreds of homes and businesses are without power as the storm tracks along the east coast. Parts of South Quay in Wicklow town have already flooded, and nearby businesses have placed sandbags outside their premises in the hope of keeping water out. There are reports of tiles being blown from the roof of a nearby property, while water levels on the Leitrim River remain exceptionally high, posing an ongoing risk of flooding along Leitrim Place and Bachelor’s Walk. A tree has also fallen near the end of Marlton Road.
ESB Networks has confirmed that 111 customers are without power in Ballybeg, while two separate outages in Rathdrum are affecting 197 and 105 customers respectively. Two outages have been reported in Baltinglass, leaving 68 customers without power.
