Jamie Carragher has issued a public apology to Mohamed Salah during a live broadcast after his scathing critique of the Liverpool striker.

During Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher had lambasted Salah’s heated post-match comments following Saturday’s stalemate at Leeds United as “a disgrace” and questioned whether the Egyptian ace would turn out for the club again.

The former Liverpool centre-back declared: “I think whenever Mo Salah stops in a mixed zone, which he’s done four times in eight years, it’s choreographed with him and his agent to cause maximum damage and strengthen his own position.

“He did that 12 months ago and I called him out on this show about it and he played on the heartstrings of Liverpool supporters.

“Liverpool were top of the league, he’d scored the winning goal at Southampton, that was the time to come out and put pressure on the Liverpool ownership.

“So for the rest of the season you’ve got banners in the crowd, ‘Give Mo his dough.’ He chose this weekend to do this, he’s waited, I think, for a bad result for Liverpool.

“Concede a last minute goal, supporters, the manager, everyone at the club feels like they are in the gutter and he’s chose that time to go for the manager and to maybe try and get him sacked.”

Come Tuesday, Carragher took his regular spot on CBS Sports’ Champions League programme alongside Micah Richards, Thierry Henry and host Kate Scott.

Following their chat about Salah’s bombshell remarks, Richards turned to Carragher with a challenge: “Would you like to apologise to Mo, and just say sorry for any disrespect,” reports the Mirror.

“It just come from passion, you’re a fan, go on, just say it down the lens.” Carragher responded: “Mo, I apologise I’ve upset you. I love you as the Liverpool player, but you just need to behave yourself off the pitch.”

Richards then commented: “That’s fair, that looked very genuine,” before offering his hand for a shake with Carragher.

Salah was notably missing from Liverpool’s 1-0 triumph against Inter Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday evening, having been omitted from the squad by Arne Slot in the wake of his controversial statements.

Whether he’ll return for Saturday’s Premier League encounter with Brighton at Anfield (3pm) remains uncertain, ahead of his departure for AFCON duty with Egypt.
