C2 Gold League: Kazuchika Okada vs. “Jungle” Jack Perry

2 of 7

Last Time in Action: Kazuchika Okada (3) defeated Pac (3) (Dynamite, December 3); this was “Jungle” Jack Perry’s first singles match since Wrestle Dynasty (January 5).

In Perry’s first match in the C2 after officially replacing an injured Darby Allin, he had Okada on the ropes with an unorthodox counters.

The Rainmaker would not stay down though, and he connected with two Rainmakers to pick up the victory.

Afterward, Don Callis tried to recruit Jungle Jack, who refused. The Family attacked Perry, but Luchasaurus and The Young Bucks turned the tide and sent The Family running.

In the first singles match for Perry in 2025 on AEW TV, he looked fantastic, pushing Okada to fight at a different speed and ferocity than anyone else in AEW has.

It led to some uneven moments but also delivered an exciting Okada sprint, a rarity for a man that often wrestles at a pace where the action does not truly pick up until the 10-minute mark.

Both styles work for The Rainmaker though, and he did impressive work in continuing to elevate Jungle Jack back to a credible role near the top of the card.

Okada is not likely to lose to anyone else in the round robin stage this year, so Perry was always going to lose. He still looked like a serious challenger in the loss.

Okada (6) def. Perry (0) by pinfall.

Notable Moments and Observations

  • Jungle Jack came after Okada at the bell, pushing the pace faster than most Rainmaker matches.
  • After Perry’s second counter of the Rainmaker, he hit him with a running knee for a dramatic near-fall that led to a “This is awesome!” chant.
  • Okada forced his way out of the first Snare Trap by biting his opponent, which Callis reminded fans was a receipt from Perry’s bite last week.
  • The Rainmaker went for a Tombstone Piledriver, but Perry countered it with what is hopefully a first in wrestling, a dick bite.
  • In the follow-up brawl, Konosuke Takeshita took a superkick for Callis.
  • Backstage, Callis told The Young Bucks to bring his money back on Dynamite where Okada, Takeshita and Hechicero would fight The Bucks and any partner for the $1,000,000.
  • Matt and Nick Jackson went to Kenny Omega’s locker room, who agreed to team with them “for free” to get back at The Callis Family.
