Storm Bram has been and gone but now weather watchers are turning their eyes towards the possibility of a white Christmas.
White Christmases are rare in Ireland. The last genuine white Christmas in Ireland was 15 years in 2010 when the entire island was covered in a blanket of snow.
There’s bad news on the horizon for Christmas shoppers as the forecast for the week before the big day is for unsettled weather. Wet and windy weather is expected with Met Eireann describing the forecasted total amount of rainfall for that time of year as “well above normal across the country”.
The weather forecast for the week of Christmas is being described as “mixed” and Met Eireann has also delivered a dismal verdict on the possibility of a white Christmas this year.
Bookies are currently offering odds of 6/1 that snow will fall at Dublin Airport on Christmas Day and looking at Met Eireann’s extended range forecast, it’s easy to see why.
It will come as dismal news to many but it’s very unlikely that we will see any snowfall on or around Christmas Day 2025. While the weather is set to be unsettled and wet, temperatures look like they won’t be cold enough for snow.
“At forecast Week 2 (December 22 to 28) and towards the latter part of December, the weather over Ireland is forecast to be mixed. The very unsettled weather of the preceding week is likely to give way to more changeable conditions with dry periods interspersed with wetter spells.
“Rainfall totals during the week are forecast to be around the seasonal norm. Mean air temperatures are likely to trend near the climatological average,” said Met Eireann.
