Clement recorded his 30th hit of this year’s postseason, passing Randy Arozarena, who recorded 29 hits in the 2020 postseason as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays. This is an incredible feat and a testament to the depth of the Blue Jays lineup as they’ve scored the most runs of any team in playoff history.
Clement, who just made MLB postseason history, bats eighth for the Blue Jays. As Clement collected his 30th postseason hit, the crowd at the Rogers Centre chanted “Ernie! Ernie! Ernie!”

While Toronto put up a worthy fight, the Dodgers came out victorious in the 11th inning of Game 7. The Blue Jays held the lead until the ninth inning when Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas tied the game at 4 with a home run.
Dodgers catcher Will Smith sealed LA’s 5-4 win with solo blast of his own in the 11th. Yoshinobu Yamamoto shut the door on the Blue Jays in the bottom of the frame to help the Dodgers first back-to-back champions in a quarter century.
Despite the crushing loss, Blue Jays manager John Schneider spoke about Clement’s historic achievement in Game 7 and praised the infielder.
“Historic. You don’t see that very often. We’re talking about really good pitchers, right-handers, left-handers. Ernie had a phenomenal year,” Schneider said. “I hope he wins a Gold Glove. He should. And he kind of became one of the faces of our team because of the way he plays. Unbelievable run that he was on this entire postseason and, man, he’s turned himself into what people think was a waiver wire pickup or a guy that’s kicked around the minors. He’s turned himself into an everyday Major Leaguer that is going to contribute to win a world championship.”
