Tyrann Mathieu has seen enough from rookie Saints QB Tyler Shough

Tyrann Mathieu has seen enough out of Tyler Shough — enough to believe the New Orleans Saints should build around the rookie quarterback as their passer of the future. Mathieu repeated his comments from his In The Bayou podcast on social media, calling on Saints fans to back him up after Shough rallied the team to an upset win on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He argues the Saints “should build everything” around Shough.

“He showed me something today!!!” Mathieu wrote online. “His numbers won’t wow you but it’s the critical situation football he’s winning! This city should absolutely get behind him & embrace him as QB for (the) next decade!!”

But there’s more to supporting the quarterback than going to games and dapping him up in the Rouses checkout line. Mathieu wants to see the Saints invest in Shough’s supporting cast: “Get him some weapons & a good defense! Saints aren’t far off from bouncing back & competing in this division!”

Shough’s performance has been encouraging, given what he’s had to work with and the situations he’s been thrown into early on. He needs to keep it up this Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Beating both of the teams on top of the NFC South in back-to-back weeks would go a long way to supporting Mathieu’s argument. Let’s see if he can get it done.
