Lexington under Winter Weather Warning

Lexington is under a Winter Weather Warning from 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 until 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12 and expecting heavy snow, according to a campus-wide email.

The email, sent Dec. 11 by University of Kentucky Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, Eric N. Monday, said a second round of snow is expected Saturday, with temperatures dropping below zero into Monday morning for Lexington and much of Northern and Eastern Kentucky.

Lexington crews will be monitoring winter weather in preparation to respond across campus if needed.

The email said UK aims to keep campus and adjunct facilities operational throughout the Winter Weather Warning.

According to the email, if a change, such as a delay or closure, is made in the university’s status, a UK Alert will be sent out.

Any additional updates on weather efforts, facility status or operation, the email said, will be shared via email, UK’s social media, the UK homepage, UKNow and at uky.edu/alerts

In the event of inclement weather, campus human resources has information on how to navigate campus safely, with maps showing the first sidewalks to be cleared of snow.
