Bring CBC Kids News to your classroom in 2026

Help build a news story with a KN journalist

We are heading back to school in the new year to offer CBC Kids News in the Classroom!

Our virtual Zoom program is open to grade 5-7 classrooms across Canada.

Students will have an opportunity to meet a CBC Kids News journalist, learn how digital news is made, get tips for spotting the difference between misinformation, disinformation and AI, and build a news story together.

To register, just ask your teacher to read this article and fill out the form below!

CBC Kids News journalist and producer, Angelica Cooper, is one of the many faces you might see during your CBC Kids News in the Classroom session.

The details

Students will connect with a CBC Kids News journalist via Zoom and learn how a news story is produced — from picking a topic to the interview process, selecting the expert and more.

This session is ideal for students in grades 5-7 (content may not be suitable for kids in Grade 4 and younger.)

What you can expect from your CBC Kids News in the Classroom hangout:

  • Duration: 45 minutes
  • Meet a CBC Kids News journalist.
  • Discuss current news stories and how they’re made.
  • Test your news skills.
  • Learn how to spot misinformation and disinformation.
  • Explore AI.
  • Collaborate and build a news story using the CBC Kids News Toolkit. (Teachers will receive a printable toolkit with your registration.)

What teachers need to know

This is a live virtual experience hosted on Zoom with up to three classrooms at a time. Classrooms may join from different schools, boards, cities or provinces.

Sessions are NOT recorded and we also request that classes do not record the program. Having the Zoom camera on so that the journalist can engage with students is encouraged but optional.

Students can participate through moderated chat or microphone. If students are participating from home or on their own devices, their names may be visible to others.

All teachers are added as co-hosts to:

  • Admit late students.
  • View chat messages.
  • Communicate with their class.
  • Mute or unmute students.

Students are expected to behave as they would in class. Teachers may be asked to intervene as necessary.

If students join remotely or on their own devices, please monitor their environment as cameras and microphones can pick up unwanted background sights and sounds.

Teachers must secure any required permission forms before their session.
