Bears-Browns game kicks off at a frigid 8 degrees

Sunday’s Bears game was one of the five coldest ever at Soldier Field.

Temperature was 8 degrees when the Browns kicked off, which is tied for the fourth-coldest ever and the second-coldest since 1989.

The coldest remains the Dec. 22, 2008 game against the Packers, which was 2 degrees. Sunday’s game tied the Bears’ Dec. 9, 2013, game against the Cowboys in which Mike Ditka’s number was retired during a halftime ceremony.

The Bears played a 3-degree game against the Packers in 1983 and a 4-degree game against Washington in 1988.

Wind chill downtown Sunday was -2 degrees when the ball was kicked off at noon.

The Bears prepared for Sunday’s game by practicing outside all week. Rookie tight end Colston Loveland said the game would be the coldest of his career at any level.

“I don’t really do anything too different — just wear a coat and sit on the [heated] bench if I get cold,” he said this week.

Also, with Tyson Bagent unavailable, Keenum is the backup to Caleb Williams. The Bears don’t have any other quarterbacks on the active roster.
