Kai Widdrington has pointed out that he was ‘pied’ on live TV as he was alongside his Strictly Come Dancing co-star as they landed a major achievement.

Those who closely follow the BBC One dance contest may also tune into the main show’s spin-off, It Takes Two, which sees hosts Fleur East and Janette Manrara catching up with the couples throughout the week to discuss their previous performances and what’s planned for the week ahead.

But as the number of competing couples dwindle, Fleur and Janette are seen chatting to everyone from the judges to those who work behind-the-scenes to gives fans a glimpse at what really goes into making one of the biggest shows on television.

However, there is also some added competition as the professional dancers go head-to-head in the ‘Pro Challenge’, which this year saw them having to perform as many samba whisks as they could within the 30-second time limit in a bid to land a Guinness World Record.

This year, it was a close call as Nadiya Bychkova had the top spot with 53 as the final two pros – Kai and Neil Jones – sat down with Janette to find out who had topped it during Thursday’s (December 11) It Takes Two episode.

For the last three years, Neil has been runner-up and was determined to win. He told Janette Manrara: “It would mean a lot. It would mean a lot to my daughter, that’s what she wants. She said, ‘Daddy, I don’t want anything for Christmas, just that’.” Janette looked at Kai and quipped: “No pressure, if this doesn’t happen you’re destroying a child’s dreams.”

It was then time for the results, with Janette revealing that Kai completed 59 steps, but had 19 disqualified, while Neil performed 63 steps, with only five disqualified, making him the winner with a grand total of 58 steps in the challenge.

A clip of Neil’s big moment was shared on Strictly’s Instagram page, with the caption: “After years of dedication, sweat, and passion, Neil finally claims the Pro Challenge 2025 crown! Officially a #Strictly Pro champion and a Guinness World Record holder.” But in the comments, Kai was quick to point out: “Got pied for a hug afterwards as well [crying laughing emojis].”

Meanwhile, fans were quick to support Neil’s new record. @whitesandshomeaccessories said; “I knew it all along.. This is why we love him. Well done that is superfast!!” @hethwestie commented: “Amen to this!! We adore Neil.” @antsm2205 wrote: “Love Neil, it’s always a disappointment when he’s not partnered up . Congrats on this fabulous achievement.”

@blonde.enigma replied: “Just like everyone predicted! Well done Neil.” @wendyvisje91 posted: “Congrats Neil. We cheered for you on the couch.” @michajewett1974 added: “Smashed it and please can he have a dance partner xx he’s amazing.”
