MobLand and Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt recently shared some big career news, not long after appearing in the final Downton Abbey movie The Grand Finale and the Paramount+ mafia drama, which both came out earlier this year.

The 45-year-old Golden Globe winner confirmed she will be closing down her production company Insight, which she founded back in 2020, as per Deadline

Two years after its creation, Insight signed an exclusively first-look deal with MGM International Television Productions through which set up the comedy TV series Love to Tell the Tale.

In a statement, the Anna Bates star said: “Winding up Insight Pictures was a considered personal decision as I shift my focus toward my family and my acting work.”

She added: “Leading the company was a valuable and rewarding experience, and I am grateful for all that it taught me.”

Froggatt was propelled into the spotlight thanks to the ITV period drama, which she has remained a part of during its 15-year run and has seen the franchise shift from the small screen onto the big screen.

Since appearing in Downton Abbey, Froggatt has starred in the BBC drama Sherwood, ITV’s Liar, and Covid drama Breathtaking, among other roles.

Earlier this year, she appeared in MobLand as Jan Da Souza, the wife of Tom Hardy’s Harry Da Souza, who works as a fixer for the ruthless Harrigan crime family.

She’s expected to be reprising her for the forthcoming second season, which is currently in production and recently announced some new cast additions, including Beast’s Johnny Flynn and Minx star Ophelia Lovibond.

MobLand was the second-biggest launch for a Paramount+ original series this year, just behind Taylor Sheridan’s Landman.

The mafia drama follows the gang warfare between crime families the Harrigans, led by Pierce Brosnan’s Conrad Harrigan and Helen Mirren as his wife Maeve Harrigan, and the Stevensons.

Along with the battle between the two clans, there’s also a retired police detective trying his best to shut down the Harrigan family operations.

The series boasts an all-star cast, including House of the Dragon’s Paddy Considine, Sherlock actress Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Jasmine Jobson from Top Boy, Mandeep Dhillon of After Life fame, Daniel Betts, Geoff Bell, Ozark star Janet McTeer, Jordi Mollà, and Detectorists’ Toby Jones.

MobLand’s opening episodes brought in 26 million views in the first 70 days of its release, according to internal streaming data.

Previously speaking about her MobLand character, Froggatt said: “Jan is very much the person in Harry’s life, who is his equal and is not intimidated by him.

“Harry is feared by most and he’s a very powerful man. But when he comes home, him and Jan share the power.”

She added to UPI: “Jan also is very complicit in what Harry does for a living, but she doesn’t like to know too many details.

“But, as the story unfolds, and the war between the two families unfolds, Jan and Gina, their daughter, obviously, get dragged into it as well.”

Season two of MobLand will pick up from the cliffhanger audiences were left on at the end of the first outing and deal with the fallout.
