STV to water down plans for changes to news programmes

In September it announced plans for one service which would cover both areas.

The revised scheme is expected to represent a compromise.

The north would still lose its entirely separate service and all studio presentation would still move to Glasgow.

But the main 18:00 programme would be split in two.

Part of it would cover Scottish national news and be shown in both central and northern Scotland.

Then viewers in each area would get their own separate section with regional and local stories.

Full details will be announced when Ofcom begins its consultation.
