Severe weather causes school delays and road closures in Oregon

Schools and roads across Oregon are experiencing delays and closures due to severe weather conditions.

The Lincoln County School District, including EI, Siletz Valley School, and Eddyville Charter School, will start two hours late because of downed trees and power lines.

Similarly, the Elkton School District in Douglas County is on a two-hour delay due to a power outage.

In Lane County, the McKenzie School District is closed due to a highway closure and power outage. All schools in the Crow-Applegate-Lorane School District will be on a 2-hour delay. No before school care and no hot breakfast. Doors open at 10:00.
Dorena Elementary is on a 2-hour delay due to a power outage. The Mapleton School District is running 2 hours late due to power outages and downed trees throughout the region.

In Linn County, Lincoln County EI is on a 2 hour delay today. Staff supporting Sweet Home, Lincoln County, Santiam Canyon, or Philomath should contact their supervisor regarding 2 hour district delays.

In Benton County, the Philomath School District, Blodgett Elementary School is on 2-hour delay due to power outage. All other Philomath schools are opening on time

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) reports that high winds and heavy rain are affecting the coast and the Willamette Valley, leading to downed trees on multiple highways.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution and check TripCheck.com for road conditions before traveling.

Current road closures include OR 22, closed two miles west of Detroit at milepost 49; OR 126, closed five miles east of Vida between milepost 31 and 44; U.S. 20, closed at Shea Viewpoint between milepost 31 and 71; and OR 214, closed four miles south of Woodburn at milepost 41.

These closures are due to downed trees and power lines and could be extended. Motorists are urged to use alternate routes.

In southwest Oregon, the High Cascades Pass is experiencing closures due to downed trees on OR 138 from west of Toketee to the U.S. 97 junction (MP 58-99), OR 62 between Prospect and east of Union Creek (MP 44-65), and OR 230 from Union Creek to OR 138 (Diamond Lake Junction).

An estimated time to reopen the highways is not currently known. Travelers are advised to use alternate routes and be prepared for the possibility of delays and temporary closures for similar conditions on all mountain passes in southern Oregon.
