Is Fortnite down?
Yes, the popular Battle Royale game officially went offline at 4 a.m. Eastern on Thursday, Dec. 18 for a scheduled update to launch Fortnite’s annual Winterfest.
Fortnite’s Chapter 7, Season 1 Pacific Break began on Nov. 29 following the mini Simpsons season.
When will Fortnite be back online?
Fortnite updates generally take a few hours.
“Winterfest blows into the Golden Coast! Downtime for v39.11 begins at 4 AM ET with matchmaking ending shortly beforehand,” Fortnite Status posed on X.
However, Epic Games did have a message to Xbox users with this update: “Please note that the update on Xbox devices may be larger than usual.”
What is Fortnite Winterfest?
Fortnite’s annual Winterfest takes place during the regular season of the game, but gives players daily free prizes in the form of presents they get to open and other winter-themed aspects in the game.
There is also an expected Harry Potter crossover coming to the island with skins and a possible broom mythic item in-game.
Winterfest should run into January as part of the game’s annual holiday celebration.
